A manufacturing site needed a dependable way to expose machine information for operations, reporting and future OEE without introducing uncontrolled writes, fragile direct connections or inconsistent definitions across equipment generations.
Approach
How the work was structured
- Structured pre-visit questionnaire and onsite controls-estate survey
- Per-machine interface, software, network and data-readiness inventory
- Read-only OPC UA as the primary pattern, with controlled gateway options for legacy machines
- Common machine-state, event, quality and timestamp data contracts
- Phased proof of concept with acceptance tests before wider rollout
- RACI, training materials, change gates and operational recovery planning

The engagement converted an open-ended “connect the machines” request into a reviewable factory communications programme. Connectivity, meaning, security and evidence were separated into controlled work packages so a pilot could be approved without committing the entire estate to an untested design.
